Learning Centre Update: Protecting the Dingo Totem
We were honoured to receive the Aboriginal Social and Emotional Wellbeing Award during NT Mental Health Week. This recognition is a meaningful milestone for Mamulbak and reflects our ongoing commitment to strengthening community wellbeing through culturally grounded programs and partnerships.
This award highlights the impact of our “Positive Choices” program, delivered in collaboration with the NT Primary Health Network. The program was created to support young people in the Nauiyu community by co-designing activities that encourage healthy choices, reduce risky behaviour, and build stronger connections to culture, community, and self.
At the heart of the program is the belief that social and emotional wellbeing grows when people feel connected to Country, culture, family, and identity. Through activities such as bush trips, cultural exchange, and community-led engagement, the program creates safe and meaningful opportunities for young people to learn, connect, and grow in ways that feel relevant to their lives.
Rather than applying a one-size-fits-all approach, “Positive Choices” meets the community where they are. By listening first and working alongside local people, the program supports long-term wellbeing in a way that is flexible, respectful, and grounded in local knowledge and lived experience.
Receiving this award is not only a celebration of the work done so far, but also a reminder of the importance of continuing to invest in community-led initiatives that support healing, resilience, and positive futures for Aboriginal people.
We are proud to stand alongside our partners and community members in this work, and we thank everyone who has contributed to making the program possible.
