Our Story

Where We Come From.
Who We Are.

The story of Mamulbak is the story of Country, kinship, and a dream to share the living culture of the Kamu and Kin affiliated groups with the world.
The founders

Our Journey Home

Mamulbak was founded in 2022 when John Bonson and Ingrid Schreiner returned to the community of Nauiyu, situated on the banks of the Daly River in the Northern Territory.

Born out of a profound love for our Country, the business was created to share that connection with others while protecting the land for future generations.

John and Ingrid are deeply integrated into community life, leading wellness groups and driving the re-establishment of the local Daly River Buffaloes Football Club. This grassroots leadership has allowed us to build the trust and rapport necessary to support our people and our land.

The Meaning of Mamulbak

In the ancestral language of the Kamu people, Mamulbak means "Dreaming". Our story is deeply rooted in the spirit of Wani Woeng and our totem, the Dingo.

Our logo represents the Nancar Range standing proud above the Daly River, a river that is always flowing, moving, and sustaining life for the plants and animals of our Country. At Mamulbak, we believe that everything connects.

A Vision for the Future

Cultural Preservation

We are building a diverse tourism offering, including a Dingo Learning Centre,
Cultural Centre, and guided riverside tours, to educate the public on the history, culture, and spirituality of the Kamu and Kin affiliated groups.

Community Wellbeing

We are committed to local people of all ages, young and old, delivering social and emotional wellbeing programmes, supporting men’s and women’s groups, and promoting positive life choices through traditional cultural activities.

“By creating local employment and training opportunities, we aim to empower Indigenous people to share their culture with pride, ensuring our stories, past, present and future, continue to be told.”
